Here's How It Works

  1. Download DriverZ App
    COMING SOON
  2. Designate Your Role
Unlock the power of the conversation with your new drivers by setting up a Mentor account first! You will have access to their driving evaluations and updates on their progress. You can choose not to participate in driving assessments.
  3. Invite Other Drivers
Engage your whole family by competing for The Boss of The Road! Unleash every driver's inner champion, no matter how young or old – it's time to show who rules the road! Invite up to three additional drivers and watch their progress as they learn and grow.
  4. Hit The Road
After each drive, Mentor and Driver will receive an in-depth driving performance analysis with tailored video lessons and exercises addressing specific needs identified by trip assessment results. Personalized to their experience, this program offers exclusive guidance on improving defensive driving techniques while behind the wheel.
  5. Track your state’s GDL Practice requirements
Mentors can easily keep track of their teen's drive time and make sure they are safely meeting the Graduated Driver’s License requirements in your state. Quickly generate accurate logs with just a few taps!
  6. Assign rewards for safe driving
Mentors can incentivize safe driving with rewards tailored to each driver. With the ability to customize reward options based on miles traveled and a minimum safety score, mentors have plenty of options at their disposal for creating successful incentives!
  7. Continue Developing your S.P.I.D.E.R. ™ Senses
With our S.P.I.D.E.R Method ™, novice drivers can continue building crucial muscle memory to anticipate and avoid danger on the road - all through regular practice combined with your guidance and micro-training! This approach has demonstrated incredible outcomes, decreasing unsafe driving by an astonishing 76% in three months!

What Is SPIDER?

The S.P.I.D.E.R. Method™, the basis of DriverZ courses, was explicitly designed by experts in the fields of behavior and driving to provide both teens and adults with the necessary tools to make safe decisions and master defensive driving techniques to prevent collisions.

Much like a superhero, you will gain a heightened awareness that will allow you to identify potential danger before it occurs. Four state D.M.V. studies demonstrate that our students have fewer tickets and are involved in fewer crashes.

What does SPIDER stand for?

  • SScanning for potential threats
  • PPredicting where threats may come from
  • IIdentifying visible threats
  • DDeciding whether to act or what action to take
  • EExecuting your maneuver
  • RReflecting on your decision

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SPIDER Method?
SPIDER is our proprietary teaching methodology that provides drivers with a simple set of tools and reference points that will allow them to make safer choices and develop their driving skills.
How is the safety score calculated?
Using standard sensors and proprietary software, we can track factors like Speeding, Hard Braking, Rapid Acceleration, Sharp Turns, and Distracted Driving - all key factors of safe driving. Using a proprietary algorithm, this data is converted into an average safety score of 1-100, and it provides safety information on each individual trip.
I got 3 and 4 stars on my individual trip score, but my overall trip score is only 2 stars. Why is it lower?
The star ratings are the sub-scores of the individual categories that compute the trip score. The overall score is not the average of the star ratings; it is a cumulation of all the sub-scores. The star rating is just an easy breakdown of the score.
Should the app be used before or after I get my driver's license?
It is designed for new drivers who are driving independently and would like to develop additional driving skills to improve their “driving muscle memory” using the SPIDER Method. However, the app can also be used during your initial driver training to provide you with additional feedback and skills.
Is this for teens only?
Anyone can use the app, but it was primarily designed to aid teen drivers in improving their driving skills.
Does the teen need to have a mentor assigned?
No, any driver can choose to practice solo. However, in solo mode, you can’t set rewards or group competitions that encourage good driving habits.
Does it cost more to add a mentor?
No, the basic subscription includes one driver and one mentor; the Family Z Plan includes a mentor and up to 4 drivers.
If I am a parent/mentor, how do I see results?
The Mentor and Driver need to install an app on their smartphones, then choose a role. The Mentor can invite up to 4 family members to participate. The Mentor has the option to participate in generating their own safety score or to just observe the driver’s performance.
I am a parent /mentor. Will my driving score be shared with my mentees?
The Mentor and Driver need to install an app on their smartphones, then choose a role. The Mentor can invite up to 4 family members to participate. The Mentor has the option to participate in generating their own safety score or to just observe the driver’s performance.
How do rewards work?
A mentor can set a dollar or other tangible reward if the driver meets set criteria. A Mentor can design their own criteria; for example, Drive X miles with a Safety Score of 75 or better.
What is considered a good driving score?
Individual trips are set for a star rating in each category: Speeding, Hard Braking, Rapid Acceleration, Sharp Turns, and Distracted Driving. Out of 5 stars, 4 or 5 is considered a good score. The overall Driving Safety Score is generated based on a 14-day average and is rated from 1-100. Obviously, the higher the score, the better. We consider 80-100 over a 14-day average to be an excellent score; 70-80 is acceptable, but may require some attention. Anything below 70 is a concern.
Can using the app create additional distractions?
No, the trip results are only available post-trip, so no phone interaction is required during driving.
Is this a tracking app?
No, this app is designed to reinforce good driving habits using the SPIDER Method. We don’t provide real-time tracking. However, we do share individual trip details with a mentor, which happens after the trip is completed, strictly for review and training purposes.
Do you share my data with insurance companies?
No personal identifiable data is shared with anyone, including insurance. Please refer to our privacy policy.
How much data does the app use?
During typical use, the data usage by the Mobile SDK is about 500 KB per hour of driving on average.
Will it drain my battery?
On recent phones, we have measured a 2-5% battery drain per hour of active driving, depending on the phone model.
